Did the massage course there. Loved the staff and instructors. Great learning environment with hands on training. Sad to see it go. It is one of Maui's affordable places for both students and clients.
I had a terrible experience at Ibis School of Cosmetology in Maui—the lady staff in front office was rude, dismissive, and didn’t care about my requests for proper eyebrow shaping. I felt very awkward throughout my visit. They rushed the service, refused touch-ups, and made me feel unwelcome even though I paid for the visit. When I mentioned about my concern she replied that “This is a school, not a salon, so don’t expect skilled eyebrow shaping done the way you want… I just had to walk off after.
I went to the school about a week ago and the staff just looked miserable and incapable of running a school I asked for a simple fade and ended up with a hairline too high up. The shampoo bowls is uncomfortable, hair all over my chair, and staff barking at the students consistently. Get better management.
I was there for roots touch up, and the students were kind. However they missed a spot and had to mix an extra product to fix it afterwards. When I questioned why would I have to pay extra for product while it was their mistake, the rude teacher lady told me that I should be grateful because in a salon that would cost me double. Well in a salon they will never miss a spot when bleaching hair… Very rude approach, what kind of example do they set for the students? I do not recommend.
If you’re looking to come to this school, I don’t recommend it. Staff treat you awful, the owners don’t ever come outside their office to congratulate you when you’re graduating, they rather get you excited for school and collect your money instead. They have student complete a ridiculous amount of services, which puts money in their pocket. The owners never check on their students how they are doing, they are too busy reeling in new students. They lie about everything during orientation btw, that will probably be the last time you talk to the owner. Staff act like they are in high school and pick on student over little kid stuff. Disrespectful and belittles students. They have the students cleaning and mopping floors, doing laundry, not once do the owners help. They don’t greet you at all. Oh, also, you don’t have parking as a student. You have to park at Whole Foods and walk in the middle of the high way, park across the street by Maui oil or “carpool”. You pretty much have to figure everything out on your own, or be lucky with a great teacher, cause there are only a few. If your looking to go to beauty school, go to Oahu, better benefits and education there, probably CHEAPER. (Did I forget, they charge you $250 a week if you miss school)… they forget that students are adults and have personal lives. It feels worst than an actual high school. Don’t waste your money on this school. Horrible horrible horrible.
