The Role
Overview
Step into the heart of BLACKBOX Melrose, our flagship men's grooming destination in Los Angeles. This is a dual role for a master barber who also leads: you'll deliver premium cuts at the chair while running the salon and its team. Responsibilities
On the floor
• Deliver expert haircuts, fades, beard trims, and grooming services with precision and consistency.
• Consult with clients on styles and aftercare, offering informed, tailored recommendations.
• Set the standard at the chair, leading the team by example.
Leading the salon
• Lead, motivate, and coordinate the team (barbers, nail technicians, front desk) to deliver consistent, high-standard service.
• Manage day-to-day operations: scheduling, staffing, supply and inventory management, and opening/closing procedures.
• Own the client experience from booking to checkout, resolving issues with professionalism and care.
• Monitor performance: track KPIs, sales, retail targets, and client satisfaction, and report to management.
• Recruit, onboard, and support the development of team members in line with BLACKBOX standards.
• Uphold rigorous hygiene, health, and safety standards in full compliance with California regulations.
• Maintain a clean, polished, and welcoming boutique environment that reflects the brand at all times.
Skills
• Valid California Barber license required.
• Proven experience as a barber, ideally in a premium or high-volume setting.
• Mastery of cutting, fading, and beard grooming techniques.
• Prior experience in salon, retail, or team management strongly preferred.
• Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and hold standards.
• Solid operational and organizational skills: scheduling, inventory, and performance management.
• Comfortable with POS systems, reporting, and basic business metrics.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable engaging with a diverse, premium clientele and a growing team.
• Ability to multitask and stay composed under pressure in a fast-paced, high-standard environment.
• Reliable, proactive, and results-driven, with a hands-on approach.
